Paleoclimate geochronology

Paleoclimate geochronology

Reconstructing the past phenomenon of the environment based on environmental archives is a key part of understanding the recent and future behavior of environmental circumstances. An aquifer, a speleothem, a peat bog core or any lacustrine, marine or terrestrial core can be act as an environmental archive, where the records can be find in geochronological order. In the late Quaternary, radiocarbon is one of the most commonly used methods for dating records up to the last ~50,000 years then for instance paleoclimate investigations can be made based on δ18O records of core samples. The measurement of the concentrations of noble gases and radiocarbon in groundwater (DIC) represents a useful method to determine the recharge temperature at which the water recharged to the aquifer.
